The Radiologist position is located in the Imaging Service, at the VA Central California Healthcare System (VACCHCS), Fresno, CA. The incumbent would be proficient at interpreting a full range of general diagnostic imaging modality exams that include ultrasound, MRI, CT, plain film, DEXA and fluoroscopy. The incumbent will be responsible for shared oversight of service protocols, technologists and service practices, interdisciplinary communications, and interaction with Clinical Services to achieve Best Practice standards and maintain high quality patient care. The incumbent will facilitate, implement, and maintain process quality improvement activities and optimize utilization of imaging resources.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide expertise and support in various facets of Diagnostic Radiology and patient care.
  • The incumbent largely functions independently without direct supervision, maintains self-directed exam workflow, quality control and safety.
  • Interpret imaging exams including relevant exam comparison and correlation with clinical information in CPRS. Support patient care services with reports timely to the care being delivered with the method of communication appropriate to the level of clinical importance or acuity.
  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to: review exam requests for appropriateness, prescribe exam protocols, respond to consults, provide oversight of technical image quality, provide clinical oversight of medication administration, provide oversight and serve as resource for radiation and MRI safety, provide oversight and serve as resource for infection control practices.
  • Participate in various aspects of quality assurance such as peer review, protocol review, appropriateness criteria and performance improvement.

Interact with patients to obtain relevant clinical history and physical exam findings within the scope of radiology practice, provide education to patients and support, obtain informed consent, issue disclosures when appropriate, document in CPRS, enter orders in CPRS, and other aspects of physician practice.

Expected Salary range $340,000 to $400,000, may include up to $15,000 in Annual Performance Bonus. Selected candidate may be eligible to apply for the Education Debt Reduction Program and if approved, receive up to $200k in school loan repayment.
