The Department of Internal Medicine at Atrium Health and Wake Forest University School of Medicine Charlotte is seeking a board-certified physician to assume the role of Vice Chair of Education. The Vice Chair will work with and report directly to the Chair, Department of Internal Medicine to establish an overarching, long-term plan for the department that considers the unique context in which the department exists and strategic vision for medical education in Internal Medicine and at Atrium Health and Wake Forest University School of Medicine. This plan will foster innovation, integration and be responsive to opportunities in this complex academic organization.

The Department has 36 core faculty members and 56 residents. Wake Forest University School of Medicine will open its Charlotte campus in 2025. The new campus will increase national recognition and prominence of Atrium Health and Wake Forest University School of Medicine in key areas, including Aging and Mobility, Alzheimer's Disease, Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Diabetes & Obesity, Pain & Addiction and Regenerative Medicine.

Position Highlights:

  • Supervision and alignment of UME and GME within the department
  • Oversee the development of all educational programs and their success
  • Assist GME and UME leaders in ensuring resources and access to teaching environments are maintained
  • Oversee development of faculty through mentoring, evaluation, and feedback for promotion and tenure
  • Prepare the core residency and any associated fellowship programs for ACGME site visits and the UME program for LCME accreditation visits
  • Chair the Clinical Competency Committee
  • Support education related committees and activities
  • Oversee GME and UME budget
  • Develop, monitor and report on educational outcome measures
  • Build relationships and collaborate with stakeholders to advance the departments goals
  • Work closely with Chair to set goals, scope and direction for the department
  • Participate in additional meetings, activities and duties as assigned
  • Clinical responsibilities to be mutually agreed upon

Candidate Highlights:

  • MD or DO and board certification required
  • Prior administrative experience required
  • Leadership experience in matrixed organizations and reporting structures preferred
  • Must be adaptable to change and committed to strategic growth for the educational mission
